The Bramley Show Potato Challenge 2025

This is open to all children under the age of 16. The aim is to grow a single seed potato in a 13.5 litre (3 gallon) bucket

There are trophies for:
The heaviest crop
The most potatoes
The largest potato (by weight)

Potatoes can be collected on Saturday 12 th April 2025 at Clift Meadow Pavillion between 10.30 pm and 12.30 pm.

How to grow your potato.
To take part you will need a 13.5 litre (3 gallon) bucket with drainage holes and a bag of compost.

  1. After you collect your seed potato, fill the base of the bucket with 10cm
    (4 inches) of compost. You can add a little perlite or grit to aid drainage.
  2. Place the potato, shoots uppermost, in the middle of the bucket.
  3. Cover with compost. As the shoots grow, keep adding compost to cover
    the shoots until the bucket is full.
  4. Leave outside in a sunny position. Keep watered, but not too wet.

Do not worry if the leaves start to die. There will be potatoes underneath
Bring the bucket undisturbed to the Village Hall car park on Sunday 7 th
September between 10am and 11am

The winners will be announced at 3.30pm on Sunday 14 th September and
your bucket and potatoes will be returned at that time. Any buckets that are
not collected will be disposed of.
